Android-based High-Performance Wearable Computer for Hands-free Applications
Rugged wearable devices are becoming increasingly popular in fast-paced distribution environments where workers need
immediate access to critical information but need their hands free to perform their assigned tasks quickly and efficiently. AML’s Dragonfly wearable computer is a rugged, high-performance device that gives users immediate access to their data, while not impeding their speed and efficiency.
Dragonfly’s Android operating system can access modern ERP and WMS systems through a web browser, dedicated Android apps, or a terminal emulation (TE) client. The 4.3” display is “right-sized” to keep the device light, nimble, and comfortable while offering easily legible on-screen data. AML offers multiple hypoallergenic medical-grade armband options to secure the wearable on a user’s arm. In comparison, other wearables on the market today use less comfortable TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) material for the armband.
High-Performance is Dragonfly’s middle name, offering up the Android operating system powered by the Qualcomm® Octa-core processor running at speeds of up to 2.7GHz.
Our standard battery offers 18.5 watt-hours of capacity, which is 40% more than the standard battery of other devices in its class. To match our battery capacity, other brands offer an extended battery, at an additional cost and additional weight. The Dragonfly can also be charged via its onboard USB-C port in the event a battery charger is not available or convenient.
A unique feature of the Dragonfly, four programmable buttons are just below the display for up, down, left, and right operations. An optional 21-key numeric keypad, with alternate alpha characters, can be attached securely to the Dragonfly.
In keeping with AML’s family of mobile computing products, Dragonfly is also supported by our wide range of software utilities and applications that simplify the deployment and management of AML devices. AML Setup, AML Lockdown, and AML Barcode are all tools that are pre-loaded and included with every Dragonfly. In addition, our popular DC Suite data collection software is license-free and pre-loaded. Finally, optional software includes AppLync, our industrial browser, and AML Device Manager, the ideal mobile device manager (MDM) web application for easing the deployment and maintenance of AML devices, especially when deployed over multiple sites.
Simply put, Dragonfly can accomplish all the same tasks as a traditional “pistol-grip” mobile computer but in a more convenient form factor.

WARRANTIES
Standard Factory Warranty
AML products are warranted against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of one year from the date of purchase. The obligation of AML under the Standard Factory Warranty is limited to furnishing labor and materials necessary to return the product to its normal operating condition, or to replace the unit, at AML’s discretion, and only on a “to factory” basis. This limited warranty does not extend to any product which has been modified, misused, abused, or incorrectly installed.
Extended Warranty Plus
An Extended Warranty Plus may be purchased for eligible products, as denoted on the product warranty chart below. An Extended Warranty Plus REPLACES the standard limited warranty, and provides for the following additional benefits.
- Covers the failure of internal components as a result of normal wear and tear.
- Covers failure of external components regardless of fault. Generally this includes the case, LCD displays, keypads, overlays, lenses, and exposed connectors.
Note: This does not include the replacement of internal components as a result of abuse or excessive wear and tear. Printed circuit boards, scan engines, and other electronic assemblies are not covered if they are physically damaged. - Covers firmware upgrades.
- Four (4) business-day turnaround, excluding time in transit, when RMA number is properly marked on the outside of the box.
- Standard return freight (FedEx ground) included.
The Extended Warranty Plus may be purchased anytime during the term of the standard limited warranty. The Extended Warranty Plus is not an extension of the standard warranty, but instead replaces it. The start date of the Extended Warranty Plus is the start date of the original warranty. Note that the Extended Warranty Plus does not cover products that have been subjected to improper installation, or that have been modified or used for purposes other than what they were intended.
Android OS Statement
Today’s consumer devices are typically only supported for 2-3 years from date of release. While the typical life expectancy for industrial equipment is 5+ years, AML historically exceeds this mark substantially, although no guaranteed life span is made or implied due to the litany of outside factors that can impact a product’s life cycle. At a minimum, AML is committed to maintaining the Striker’s OS firmware for as long as the product is kept in production. This includes periodic updates for critical CVEs (Common Vulnerability and Exposures) that are applicable per the Android Security Bulletins. AML also extends that support beyond Android’s updates if their support ends early by manually patching critical vulnerabilities as necessary.
