About AML
AML engineers and manufactures industrial-grade mobile computers designed specifically for barcode data collection applications. Our industrial barcode scanners are cost-effective, reliable, and integrate easily into a variety of business models. Barcodes are the medium by which inventory is tracked in a wide range of industries ranging from manufacturing, wholesale distribution, retail, hospitality, and healthcare, and industrial barcode scanners are the tool by which barcodes are scanned and decoded, quickly and error-free.
Selecting the Right Barcode Scanning Technology
Industrial barcode scanners can be equipped with different barcode scanners, called “scan engines”, that fit specific application needs. The original barcode scanners used laser technology which used a single beam or “raster” to scan the barcodes. This technology is still in use today, primarily in retail, but other technologies have surpassed lasers in terms of performance, functionality, and reliability. Because lasers rely on a single beam, they can only scan in one dimension, meaning they can only scan a one-dimensional barcode, such as a UPC code. They also utilize moving parts making them more susceptible to reliability issues.
Newer, more advanced imaging technology is basically camera-based. Imagers, also called 2D-Imagers, have no moving parts, and emit a flood of light to illuminate the barcode and basically take a picture of it to decode it. For this reason, a 2D imager can scan and decode virtually any type of barcode. It can scan any of the one-dimensional codes a laser can, plus all the two-dimensional codes such as QR Codes and PDF417 codes. 2D imagers also come in different variants depending on how far away you need to scan, with some models able to scan as far away as 50 feet or more, assuming the barcode is scaled up in size and printed with high quality on the proper substrate. Note, however, that there is a price to pay for the added “depth of field”. Ultimately, an industrial barcode scanner equipped with a 2D Imager can do everything a laser scanner can, plus more, and with a higher degree of reliability.
Benefits of AML Industrial Barcode Scanners

Mobile computers are handheld, portable devices used in several types of businesses, that are capable of running web browsers or mobile apps designed to access either cloud-based or on-premise software systems that run those businesses. In addition, they have the ability to capture barcodes and even take photos. There are several types of mobile computers, ranging from smartphone-style to tablets, as well as industrial-grade computers with barcode scanners.
No matter the type of mobile computer your business requires, there are several standard functions they each have:
There are significant and wide-ranging benefits to using mobile computers in your company:
Time is money in any business and giving employees the ability to be mobile while they are completing their assigned tasks offers a huge boost in efficiency. Mobile computers can completely eliminate the “clipboard and pencil” approach to data collection, as well as the need to enter or retrieve data using a desktop computer. Scanning barcodes virtually eliminates the potential for data entry errors that result from typing data into a computer keyboard. Employees can enter, scan, retrieve, edit and respond to data in real time, and on the move.
Now other departments, groups or divisions that need visibility to that data, get it much quicker and with greater accuracy, when mobile computers are in use. Now they can act faster and with greater efficiency. The benefits of using mobile computers has a positive domino effect in any business. The end result is a higher degree of employee productivity, which minimizes waste and errors, improving the company’s bottom line profitability.
By implementing the flexibility and increased productivity that mobile computers bring to your business, customer satisfaction is quickly boosted by being able to address the needs and demands of your customers more efficiently.
Our mobile computing devices are all engineered, manufactured, and serviced in the United States and are designed to provide cost-effective barcode data collection, with ease of use and high performance as guiding benefits.
