Retail Price Checking

Grocery and Retail Price Checking Kiosks

What are Price Scanners?

In-store barcode scanner price checkersgrocery store price checking are devices deployed throughout a retail store and are used to provide customers the prices of products. Customers simply scan the UPC barcode on the item and the device responds with the price. This is especially useful in parts of the store where items may be stored or presented in a way where the pricing isn’t apparent, or where the items are not individually labeled with pricing. Often retailers depend on shelf labeling to illustrate the pricing but those may go missing or the product is in the wrong location. There are numerous reasons why a price checking kiosk could provide value to the customer and enhance their shopping experience.

Every year millions of shoppers in stores like Walmart use price scanners either when using self check-out or checking a price on the retail floor. More and more retailers are moving to self-service models, as evident by the rapid growth of self-service checkout lines. There are fewer and fewer store associates on the retail floor so adding any form of self-service, including price checking, is a positive move to maintain a superior level of customer satisfaction. The shoppers perceived lack of customer service might be dulled by the presence of more technology that allows them to get the information they need to make a buying decision.

Item Pricing Laws for Retailers

Retail store owners in some U.S. states and territories are accustomed to dealing with item pricing laws that mandate the use of price scanners in certain types of retail establishments. These laws will go so far as to dictate how many price checkers are required depending on the square footage of the store or how many checkout lanes they have, such as the New York City law

Many price checking systems are simplistic in that the information that is returned on the display screen only shows the price. More sophisticated systems can also show images of the product, speak the price audibly for ADA compliance, and play videos or slideshows when the device is sitting idle. The purpose of these more advanced kiosks is to enhance the customer experience using the device.

The Price Checking Mini Kiosk Solution

When a retailer embarks on a project to deploy price checkers, Store Scan Logo in color.the most imposing part of the project can be software. There are essentially two software components. One is the client-side software that runs on the price checker device creating the user interface (what the customer sees when they walk up to the price checker) and the backend software that communicates to the server. The other software component runs on the server and accesses the database where the price information is stored and then communicates that information to the price checker.

AML offers hardware and software solutions that can speed up the deployment of price checkers, cutting the overall project timeline from months to weeks for even the largest of deployments. Our StoreScan price verification software is out-of-the-box ready to develop a price checker userFirebird price scanner kiosk interface that is branded with the retailer’s colors and logo. Add product images, videos, and slideshows, and choose to activate the speech option so that the price is spoken for the visually impaired. The retailer will have to do minimal work on the server side to provide the requested price information, but StoreScan saves hundreds of man-hours in development and testing.
