3PL Provider Transitions to Cost Effective AML Striker Mobile Computers with Purpose-Built Applications

Objective

With multiple facilities across the southeastern United States, Porter Logistics is a leading provider of warehousing and distribution services for several industries. With 740,000 sq. ft of storage space across three locations, using reliable barcode scanning equipment to track inventory is essential to run a smooth operation. Porter Logistics uses a web-based application, Extensiv 3PL System to manage client inventories with real-time visibility.

Porter Logistics had previously relied on mobile computers from another brand. While they remained committed to high-performance standards, they sought a more cost-effective alternative. Ensuring compatibility with the Extensiv software application was also a key consideration in evaluating new devices.

Solution

After meeting Porter Logistics at the International Warehouse Logistics Association Conference, AML presented the Android-based mobile computer Striker to the Porter Logistics team. The Striker is a high-performance mobile computer designed for fast-paced warehousing and fulfillment centers. Once compatibility was confirmed with the Extensiv software application, Porter Logistics requested a demo trial of the Striker at their HQ in Atlanta, GA.

The Striker demo unit was also preloaded with AML’s AppLync browser. AppLync allows users to run web-based applications on a secure web browser. AppLync is a safer alternative to Chrome or Firefox browsers because access to other websites beyond the intended software application can be restricted.

Porter Logistics also enrolled in a demo trial of AML’s mobile device management application. AML Device Manager includes a comprehensive suite of features that allows administrators to manage AML devices such as the Striker remotely.

Summary

After comparing the new Striker devices to the other equipment, the 3PL provider ultimately decided to move forward by rolling out AML Strikers to replace previous mobile computers. Porter Logistics also purchased licenses for AppLync and AML Device Manager. The 3PL also recently upgraded to the new StrikerX model with all the same great features as Striker on a newer Android OS.

“We’ve been able to supply all of our leads and pickers with individual scanners, eliminating the need for sharing equipment,” IT Manager Nick Keaton said. “In addition, we see great benefits from the Device Manager and being able to remote into our worker’s scanners if problems ever arise.”
