Inserting a Capture File

The Capture File is where Data input into the M5900 will be stored until it can be transferred back to your PC.

In order to send any information back to the PC that information must be in the Capture File.

After starting a new Program, you will find yourself in the Capture File Editor.

Each Capture File has two field types.

There are Header Fields in the File Header which act kind of like variables.  These usually asked for once on an early screen and will be output at the top of the capture file.

Then there are the Fields of the Capture file.  These are the data contained in the capture file.  When a user hits FUNC-UP it will move to the previous one of these fields.

Before we do or add anything else to our program, we need to decide what data we intend to capture and add those fields to the Capture File.

To configure you Capture file, add Capture File Fields using the Add button.

You will be prompted to name each Capture File Field:

If you intend on receiving the capture file in a program other than the program generator or you plan on receiving the capture file with no format (as keyboard input or to file) then you can add a Prefix, Suffix, and delay(if appropriate) to the capture field.  Special characters that you can add are displayed by clicking on the Special Codes buttons.

If you make a mistake or need to re-order your fields, click on the field and hit the Remove button and add it again.

You can make modifications to how the capture file will be formatted and where is will be written to by using the

Advanced tab.

Set the filename to blank and when the capture file is received the file will convert to CSV and the user will be prompted for where to save the file.

Additional Notes:

By default, every M5900 application starts out with a Capture file.

However, if you don't have any intention of capturing any data, you may remove the Capture File from your program by clicking on "Capture" in the tree view, and then selecting "Edit" ->  "Delete" from the menus.
