AML’s New Vehicle-Mounted Computer Features Android

The deceptively rugged Paladin is ideal for virtually any inside-the-four-walls vehicle or fixed-mount application.

November 15, 2016, Euless, TX: AML, a leading manufacturer of barcode-centric mobile computers and stationary kiosks, has announced the introduction of the Paladin, the latest evolution of vehicle-mounted computing. The deceptively rugged and cost-effective Android-based vehicle-mounted computer is ideally suited for non-hand-carry data collection applications such as being mounted to a forklift or used in a stationary shop floor application.

The new Paladin houses a powerful computing platform featuring Android 5.1 running on a 1 Ghz Freescale microprocessor with 1 GB DDR3 RAM memory. It comes standard with 8GB of internal memory and the option to add an SDHC for even more storage. The Paladin boasts a 9.7″ capacitive touch screen which offers maximum data presentation to the viewer without hindering driver visibility. The LCD delivers high resolution / high visibility data, picture, and video content. With the new Android operating system, combined with the capacitive touchscreen, the Paladin represents a shift toward more intuitive user interfaces.

The Paladin is equipped with an array of standard interfacing capabilities such as Ethernet, USB, RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422 and can be mounted using a standard VESA 75 mounting device. For wireless connectivity, both Wi-Fi and BT are standard features. For shop floor applications, the Paladin’s HDMI port allows it to project images on larger monitors and the built-in Power-over-Ethernet support means it can be powered over a CAT 5 Ethernet cable connected to a PoE-enabled network switch.

“The Paladin is the logical next step for vehicle mounted computing. More and more of our customers are asking for the Android operating system and the capacitive touch screen technology that today’s users have grown accustomed to with their personal devices.” said Mike Kearby, president, AML. “With an MSRP of $1,595 it truly makes rugged computing affordable.”
